The Colorado Medical Society (CMS), founded in 1871, is an association of physicians which:
"Promotes the science and art of medicine, the betterment of public health, and the welfare of the medical profession and the patients it serves; and promotes the similar interests of its components and district medical societies."*
Through the variety of physician task forces, councils and committees, the Colorado Medical Society continually monitors public health concerns, proposed legislation relating to these and other health issues, and recommends legislation which will work toward the accomplishment of these goals. At the heart of each of the subjects monitored by these councils and committees is today's need for cost containment. Through Colorado Medical Society, physician members are ever more aware of the need for cost containment in the health care system and work through the organization toward that end.
Members of the Colorado Medical Society are, first of all, advocates for their patients in all matters of health and medical care. These physicians are among the highest caliber physicians in the state, many of whom are recognized nationally for their contributions to the fields of science and medicine.
The Colorado Medical Society is the advocate of its physician members, acting as a conduit for continuing medical education, improved practice management, physician liaison with managed care and health maintenance organizations and health insurance providers. The Colorado Medical Society also offers numerous member services
With frequent publications, CMS also educates and informs its members of changing requirements in the practice of medicine. The organization works to make the physician more efficient and cost effective in his/her practice through management guidelines and examples.
A continuing program of public health information is conducted by CMS, working closely with public, private and parochial schools for an aggressive program of health education and health awareness.
In 2005, Colorado Medical Society celebrated its 135th Anniversary of service to the patients and the physicians of Colorado, and is proud to be an active, integral part of the finest health care system in the world.
