Subject:                      Requiring Insurance Companies to Disclose Their Contracted Fee Schedules.

WHEREAS, when an insurance company contracts with a physician to provide medical care to the company's clients, said company agrees to pay the physician according to a specified fee schedule, and

 

WHEREAS, it is common practice for insurance companies to not give the physician a copy of the fee schedule designated in the contract, and

 

WHEREAS, a physician cannot know if he or she is being paid correctly without a copy of the fee schedule designated in their contract; therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Colorado Medical Society actively pursue legislation that would require insurance companies to make available their complete fee schedules to the physicians with whom they contract, and be it further

            RESOLVED, that the CMS Delegation to the AMA take to the AMA House of Delegates a resolution calling for federal legislation that would accomplish this same goal for physicians throughout the United States.
