Subject: Radiology in Primary Care
Referred to: Reference Committee on Health Affairs
WHEREAS, the provision of basic radiologic services is an integral part of the practice of many primary care physicians, and
WHEREAS, recent actions of the Board of Medical Examiners and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment have made the provision of these services unnecessarily difficult, forcing primary care practices to restrict or discontinue their provision of radiologic services, and
WHEREAS, reduced convenient access to basic radiologic services inhibits and/or compromises the care of patients needing these services, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Colorado Medical Society seek changes in legislation and/or regulation that would restore the ability of primary care and all other licensed physicians to provide, supervise and delegate the provision of basic radiologic services without further regulation or restriction within the office or clinical settings in which they regularly provide other patient care services. Specifically, such physicians would not be restricted to utilizing only staff members who were Radiographic Technologies or who had passed the Limited Scope test currently required, but would otherwise remain subject to the general requirements of professional conduct in the provision of radiologic services.
