Important Message from ACS: Have You Registered Your NPI with Medicaid? - As the deadline for required usage of NPI numbers on electronic claims draws closer, we are concerned providers may be unaware their NPI numbers are not registered with Medicaid.
We recently ran a report that reflected:
- 453 enrolled clinic billers have no NPI on file with Medicaid. That represents 134,246 claims that would have denied.
- 309 M.D.s and D.O.s billing independently do not have their NPI number on file with the Medicaid program. Their 12,428 claims would have been denied. We are concerned with the disruption of cash flow for these offices.
Next week ACS and the Colorado Medicaid program will be sending bright yellow postcards to those billing providers who have no NPI numbers on our files.
The postcard gives instructions how to register the NPI electronically through the web-portal for Medicaid. It also gives instructions for the paper method. And for those who have not yet obtained their NPI number, the website to apply for their NPI number.
