FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 21, 2014
The Office of the Governor and the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment (CDPHE), the state agency dedicated to protecting the health and environment in Colorado, have the full cooperation and support of the Colorado Medical Society (CMS) to achieve the goal of making sure that public health, health systems and health care professionals and other partners are prepared to recognize a potential Ebola case, to halt its transmission efficiently and quickly, and to protect our frontline and health care providers.
CDPHE has been working hard to ensure that our state is ready should an imported case of Ebola arrive. CMS is working closely with CDPHE and our colleagues at every level of the health care system – including local public health, hospitals, nurses and others – to ensure that members of the health care team are prepared for any potential Ebola virus exposures.
CMS physician members have already received a special communication that explains what they need to know about detecting and responding to any potential Ebola case. This same communication was sent to physician practice managers through the Colorado Medical Group Management Association. All Colorado physicians, regardless of CMS membership, have access to the CMS Ebola resource page at www.CMS.org. CMS and CDPHE physician leaders are currently working together on additional physician education initiatives.
The CMS board of directors will give priority attention to the issue at its Nov. 14 meeting. CMS is fortunate to have two public health officials on its 34-member board to provide expert advice.
