General Qualification Requirements

Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. We value lived experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database applications, and meeting planning.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and advancing health equity. Working knowledge of educational design and adult learning principals, an interest in teaching, mentoring, and life-long learning is a plus. Experience with Continuing Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Adult Education, and/or other regulatory requirements is a plus.Progressively responsible positions in healthcare, project management, program management, or association management is preferred. Competency in multiple languages is a plus. Knowledge of the medical field and profession is helpful.

Skills and Abilities

This position requires the ability to be self-directed and to work independently since this is a department of one. Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and rigorous attention to detail are required. Ability to manage multiple projects, quickly adapt to changing environments, adhere to strict deadlines, and demonstrate both independent and collaborative judgement. Effective relationship building and communication skills (written and verbal) are essential.

Position responsibilities: Recognized Accreditor Program

  • Develop annual budget, adjust program and services fees, and manage invoices to CMS accredited providers.
  • Maintain compliance with standards established by ACCME, as reflected in the Markers for Equivalency
  • Support the Committee on Professional Education and Accreditation (CPEA)
  • Communicate with accredited providers and ACCME as needed
  • Provide Professional Development/Educational opportunities and resources to Accredited Providers

Position responsibilities: CMS CME Program

  • Develop annual budget, adjust joint provider fees, and manage invoices to CMS joint providers.
  • Maintain compliance with ACCME accreditation criteria, Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, ACCME policies and AMA requirements.
  • Plan and implement direct and joint provided CME activities certified by CMS
  • In coordination with committee and other CMS staff, write the self-study report and prepare materials for reaccreditation with ACCME.

Other expectations

Occasional in- and out-of-state travel in support of CME and/or Recognized Accreditor Program. Participate in CME educational opportunities through ACCME, CACME, Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions and other professional development activities
Flexible time schedule including some early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The BCMS Executive Director for BCMS will report to the CMS chief executive officer and work closely with the membership director, communications director and other CMS staff. The Executive Director:

  • Is the administrative officer of BCMS, charged with furthering the goals of the organization.
  • Is responsible for effectively communicating the organization’s positions on various issues to medical, government and community groups.

  • Develops, implements, and manages local membership retention and recruitment activities for the organization.

INDEPENDENCE/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Duties are performed independently to achieve assigned objectives; however, methods and procedures may not be specifically defined, and decisions may be subject to broader involvement of the organizations’ presidents, boards of directors, CMS CEO, or other CMS department heads.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

  1. Provide consultation to the organization’s board of directors in developing effective policies and positions on pertinent issues and execute action plans as directed. Identify, monitor and provide analysis of developments important to the organizations that influence health care policy, regulatory compliance, medical practice viability and other relevant trends.
  2. Collaborate with the Colorado Medical Society and other component societies on policy and program development, membership recruitment and retention, advocacy, and overall support of organized medicine objectives in Colorado.
  3. Establish, implement and manage events and programs helpful to the physician members and consistent with the organization’s missions.
  4. Establish recruitment and outreach activities to ensure the continued growth, member retention and viability of the organization.
  5. Provide appropriate support services to members and seek new opportunities to meet member needs.
  6. Execute effective communications with the membership for information sharing, event promotions, member benefits and other news pertinent to Boulder County through newsletters, websites, social media, printed materials, etc.
  7. Manage the organization’s finances, which includes but is not limited to preparing the annual budget, maintaining fiscal responsibility in accordance with the budget, and working with the CMS accounting team to update and maintain internal control systems.
  8. Seek opportunities to develop sources of non-dues revenue; e.g., annual sponsors, advertising revenue, program sponsorship or exhibits, or opportunities to partner with other organizations.
  9. Provide administrative support to the board of directors, representatives on the CMS Board of Directors and councils, and all other organization committees and workgroups.
  10. Provide appropriate information and support for the annual transition of officers and other volunteer leaders to assure organizational continuity including administrative responsibility for the nomination and election of new officers and other positions.
  11. Act as the initial interface between the organizations and the public/media in a manner that reflects well upon the organizations and creates a positive impression.
  12. Perform other related duties as directed or required, including occasional work before or after normal business hours.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing environment and demonstrate both independent and collaborative judgment needed. Must be skilled in customer relations, marketing and messaging development and implementation.
