Goal setting: Defining your goal and planning for achievement
by Kathy Kennedy, DrPH, MA

Health care is experiencing an unpredictable future and navigating what’s next will require clear and careful development and execution of goals. For physicians goal setting is an often under-appreciated skill that is essential to ensure a meaningful and professionally satisfying practice.

This installment of the CMS Leadership Skills Series will be conducted via videoconference. During this 90-minute session participants will learn how to:

  1. Craft a SMART goal
  2. Explain how to address five additional factors that define a clear goal (resources, scheduling, benchmarks, rewards, and motivation)
  3. Create a timeline and benchmarks for the goal using the “A to Z” method.

Plan on attending to develop or refine your goal setting skills to help ensure the future you want for your practice, your profession and your patients.
