POSITION: The Director of Membership will be a strategic thought partner reporting to the chief executive officer and working closely with the communications department. The Director of Membership is a hands-on and participative manager that leads an internal team to develop, implement, and manage all membership retention and recruitment activities and programs for the Society. The Director of Membership is also responsible for developing and maintaining collaborative and trusted relationships with CMS staff and the independent executives who lead the Society’s local/county component societies.

The Director of Membership, like all CMS employees, has the option for hybrid work based on personal preference, from a remote office or the physical CMS office located in the Lowry area of northeast Denver. Candidates must live in Colorado and will be expected to attend internal and external meetings in person in the Denver area and around the state, with a budget for travel expenses for meetings outside of the office.

INDEPENDENCE/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Duties are performed independently to achieve assigned objectives; however, methods and procedures may not be specifically defined, and decisions may be subject to broader involvement of CEO and other department heads.


1. Supervise department staff and work with other department directors and local component society executives to develop and implement marketing activities for membership recruitment and retention, including:

  • dues billing and collection
  • increasing membership with recruitment and retention campaigns
  • direct mail correspondence
  • segment marketing based upon analysis of member and nonmember data
  • website resources
  • e-newsletters
  • marketing themes and messages for specific audiences
  • resources for staff and physician leadership
  • printed collateral materials
  • identifying appropriate vehicles for marketing and promotion activities
  • mutually beneficial marketing and other activities with component societies

2. Plan, implement and coordinate membership development activities, projects, and meetings. These may be in the areas of:

  • committee, section and component medical society meetings
  • budget review and management
  • membership data queries, analysis and follow up
  • measure, track and report on campaigns
  • membership data integrity, updates and clean up
  • membership retention and recruitment planning sessions

3. Maintain national, state and local market relationships and presence to develop and implement recruitment efforts, including travel to component medical societies; independent, small, and large group physician practices; and insurance plan, hospital-based, and private equity employed physician groups.

4. Perform other related duties as directed or required, including occasional work before or after normal business hours.


Knowledge and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in related field – such as marketing or business/sales – preferred. Goal oriented and strong sales or non-profit fundraising experience with proficiency in database management. Proficient in Microsoft Office, data queries, report writing, and meeting planning all while working under clear-cut deadlines. Understanding of current physician practice landscape preferred and membership association experience a plus. Experience managing a team. We value lived experience.

Skills and Abilities: This position requires strong relationship building, organizational and marketing skills, independent thought, and effective communication skills (both written and verbal), word processing, spreadsheet and database skills, and strong project coordination abilities. Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and demonstrate both independent and collaborative judgement.

COMPENSATION: Salary range $65,000-$85,000, negotiable, and commensurate with experience. Full-time benefits include health insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, flexible medical/dependent care program, company matched 401(k) program, and generous paid leave.

Job Description

The Director of Psychiatry Services has administrative responsibility for the management of Psychiatry Services and provides leadership, direction, and clinical supervision in accordance with departmental, organizational, and University goals and objectives. This position provides patient care; supervises, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care; develops and implements programmatic plans, including performance improvement activities and compliance with current regulations; develops and administers comprehensive programs that responds to patient demographic needs; supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned to Psychiatry Services; and effectively utilizes employee resources and time responsibilities for the department. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the CSU Health Network and serves as a member of the Leadership Team, which is responsible for strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, and other large scope initiatives.   • Work/Life Balance. This position provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, with NO evenings, on-call or weekends, providing attractive work schedules and a strong work/life benefits for staff.
  • Relocation Assistance Available. Assistance with reasonable relocation and moving expenses up to $5,000, in accordance with applicable policy.
  • Recruitment Incentive. Eligible for a one-time signing bonus of $5,000, in accordance with applicable policy.
  • Malpractice Insurance. As a State of Colorado employee, staff are covered for liability under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (CGIA).
  • Federal Narcotics License (DEA registration). Fee is waived for a State of Colorado employee.
  • CME. A fiscal year allocation of $1,500 based on full-time equivalency and 5 days of paid leave for CME.
  • Collaborative Multidisciplinary Team. We offer a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. Staff at the CSU Health Network are supported by a full range of services for students, including laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychiatry, medical services, dental, optometry, and nutrition services on site, behavioral health and integrated care with counseling staff enhances the treatment of students with behavioral health concerns.
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Since CSU is a public service employer, employees may be eligible for PSLF. This program forgives student loan debt for individuals working full-time in the public service sector.


This position is assigned a set part-time or full-time schedule between 36-40 hours per week. The salary of $235,000 – $265,000, prorated by full-time equivalency, is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and applicable board-certified psychiatry subspecialties. There is opportunity for additional salary if you have completed fellowships and are board certified in psychiatry subspecialties, applicable to CSU Health Network services provided (for example, Addiction Psychiatry).
