CDPHE with panelists Dr. Rachel Herlihy, State Epidemiolosgist, Kate McIntire, Deputy Director State Vaccine Task Force, Kevin Klein, Director, Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and Scott Sherman, Brigadier General provided an update on Thursday, February 18th on COVID-19 vaccine distribution and COVID-19 variants in Colorado.
COVID-19 Variants of Concern:
Variants of concern reported by Dr. Rachel Herlihy are B.1.1.7 (reporting 71 cases) and variant L452R (reporting 29 cases). A variant of concern is defined as “variants of concern may spread easier, cause more severe disease, reduce the effectiveness of treatments or vaccine, or is harder to detect using current tests.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution:
Kate McIntire reported that 1 million vaccines have been administered and Colorado is 86% to goal to vaccinate 70% of the 70+ population. Phase 1A is 100% complete and 90% of Phase 1B health care workers have been vaccinated.
It was also reported that winter storms across the United States did delay vaccine shipments to Colorado this week. Despite this, big efforts were made on February 17th to get back up to speed, and the expected shipments of the vaccine Colorado was to receive will begin today and continue to be delivered through Saturday.
