Every specialty cares for patients facing serious illness, complex medical decisions, or uncertainty about what comes next. That’s why effective communication about goals of care isn’t just a palliative care skill—it’s an essential skill for every healthcare professional.

CMS members are encouraged to attend this practical webinar and share the opportunity with their entire practice team. Everyone who interacts with patients and families—physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, front-desk staff, office managers, and students—can benefit from learning how to support compassionate, patient-centered conversations.

Participants will learn:

  • The difference between palliative care and hospice
  • When to consider a referral for palliative care support
  • Frameworks for serious illness conversations, including practical language for difficult discussions
  • Ways the full practice team can recognize patient needs and support timely, compassionate care

Format: Virtual via Zoom. The webinar will be recorded and made available afterward.

Who should attend: CMS member physicians and medical students, clinical staff and practice staff.

Speaker: Kristin Keefe, MD, is Chief Medical Officer of Colorado-based Care Synergy. Dr. Keefe is board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine and has decades of experience caring for patients and families. She is passionate about education for physicians and their staffs on end-of-life care. She will provide actionable tools that can be used in any practice setting.

Spread the word to your staff and colleagues—this is a valuable learning opportunity for everyone who helps patients navigate difficult healthcare decisions.
