Revised disease reporting regulations, webpage, and posters

Revised disease reporting regulations, webpage, and posters

The Colorado State Board of Health approved amendments to 6 CCR 1009-1: Epidemic and Communicable Disease Control regulation in January 2026. Those changes officially took effect March 17, 2026. The amendments are focused on clarifying disease reporting roles, methods, and time frames, as well as adding language that defines and encourages reporting via electronic methods.

  • No new reportable conditions were added.
  • Only one condition, encephalitis, was removed.
  • Eighteen (18) pathogens that were previously reportable by both laboratories and health care providers are now only reportable by laboratories.
  • Two conditions, Mycobacterium leprae infection (Hansen’s disease) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) and other transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) must now be reported by laboratories as well as health care providers.

CDPHE disease reporting webpage: This website has been fully revised and includes sections specific to laboratories, health care providers, health care facilities, veterinarians, and additional disease reporters.

Reporting posters: At the request of many stakeholders, we have created two reporting posters. One poster is for laboratories and the other is for all other reporting groups (health care providers, health care facilities, veterinarians, and additional reporters). You can access the posters online from the disease reporting webpage.
